As background:  the ravine was developed in the late 19th century by the owners of the Armbruster Scenic Studios, whose working space was at one end of the ravine.  As providers of theatrical scenery (along with decorations for fraternal groups, school proms, weddings, and all manner of things), the Armbrusters, originally from Germany, were great fans of Richard Wagner and his work.  Hence the appearance of Walhalla Road, Brynhild Ave., Mimring St., and other references to the Ring Cycle.  Images of surviving Armbruster drops from a touring Uncle Tom's Cabin troupe can be found at http://utc.iath.virginia.edu/onstage/imagesosu/dropshp.html
